Happy Constitution Day!
By Randy Simmons
Today is Constitution Day, the day when we celebrate the ratification of the Constitution of the United States. It was a momentous time in our history and there were many “anti-federalist” detractors who thought creating a federal system was a huge mistake. I am firmly a federalist. I believe strongly in the separation and division of powers enshrined in the Constitution. I want controls over my elected representatives at all levels, especially since I spent ten years as an elected city official.
Several years ago, I and a few friends created Strata Policy with the intention of promoting the same values on which our constitution is based–life, liberty, freedom, and prosperity. We wanted then and continue to want, to carefully examine government policies and point out when they promote or violate those principles. We know that free markets are imperfect and that governments are imperfect as well. Our job is to provide analysis that identifies ways to reduce those imperfections.
Strata has been relatively quiet for several months as we have regrouped and refocused after losing a lot of staff to other ventures, including the new Center for Growth and Opportunity at Utah State University. We were never gone, but we are clearly back with new staff, researchers, and vigor. Over the next few months we will continue to publish on our blog and on our Facebook page in addition to beginning new research projects. Expect great things from us.
Thank you for your support and interest in our mission.
